Peering down towards the rear of the instrument, I can see that some tracks do not look all that pristine. Off comes the rear cover by removing 4 torx screws. You can see that the PSU is a good old fashioned linear one. One thing about these old style PSUs is that they are 100% HP, unlike the OEM switched mode types found in newer equipment. Sometimes, even HP is unable to supply the schematics of the OEM supplies, so beware! I heard that it is quite common for a bad supply to cause your HP8920A RF test set to turn into a door stopper.
